pipe couplings

All you need to know about pipes coupling

A vital part of piping systems is pipe couplings, especially in wastewater and water applications. They are used to connect two sections of pipe in a way that keeps their continuity and integrity. Couplings are a necessary piece of equipment along with various pipe repair clamps for piping repair. Couplings are pipe fittings that aid in terminating or extending pipe runs. These fittings are also used to modify the size of the pipe, it is used to repair a leak or broken pipe. A pipe coupling is a pipe fitting used to connect two or more pipes wherein that continuity is kept between them.

The body of a pipe coupling is usually made of either similar or alike materials as that of the pipes it connects. They may be flexible or rigid based on the amount of movement the pipe is subjected to and may also be removable or permanent. Most installations of pipe need various lengths of pipe to be associated or cut to ease changes in direction and junction of obstacles.

 All about coupling pipe fitting

A pipe coupling is also known as a coupler which is a short length of pipe or tube used to link pipes of various sizes and types. Couplings provide a reliable and quick way to connect different pipe parts without compromising integrity and continuity. They can be made from various materials such as brass, iron, PVC, copper, and many more. Couplings provide a quick and simple method for repairing pipes without lengthening service interruptions. Pipe couplings may also comprise equipment or peripheral features such as flow meters, inspection openings, or valves.

Know the categories of Pipe Couplings

Couplings under the scope of pipe fittings can be grouped into 2 categories:

  • Permanent Coupling
  • Permanent pipe couplings make use of brazing or soldering in the case of copper pipes or steel or adhesives in the case of PVC pipes. These permanent joints if installed properly, provide superb rigidity and sealing attributes wherein no future changes in the pipping are predicted.
  • Removable Coupling
  • Removable pipe couplings are most usually of a threaded design, this allows them to be fastened onto the pipes to be connected. The basic pipe section is the most simple and slightly bigger compared to the pipes to be lined and cut with an internal thread. The coupling is secured with hemp or sealing tape and screwed onto both pipes.
